چکیده
Abstract BACKGROUND Three lab‐scale sequencing batch reactors were used to investigate the effects of Fe 3+ on aerobic granular sludge (AGS) formation, nutrient removal, and microbial community. RESULTS The addition 6 12 mg L −1 could not shorten granulation time. However, compared reactor without (average volume index at 30 min (SVI ) 70.8 mL g ; stable average particle size 548 μm), helped improve physical properties AGS SVI 57.0 1067 μm). Furthermore, with (Fe PO 4 3− ‐P molar ratio = 1.33), effective removal NH + ‐N (≤0.5 (<1 was achieved. reduced diversity specific activity heterotrophic bacteria, but promoted growth nitrite‐oxidizing bacteria. only increased active biomass diversity, alleviated inhibition effect bacteria activity. CONCLUSION had both negative positive formation stability AGS. results will help enrich understanding application in especially that phosphorus. © 2020 Society Chemical Industry

Modeling the nutrient removal process in aerobic granular sludge system by coupling the reactor- and granule-scale models.
We developed a model for nutrient removal in an aerobic granular sludge system. This model can quantitatively describe the start-up of the system by coupling a model for studying the population dynamics of the granules in the reactor (reactor-scale model) and a model for studying the microbial community structure in the granules (granule-scale model). The reactor-scale model is used for simulat...
متن کاملInfluence of Partial Denitrification and Mixotrophic Growth of NOB on Microbial Distribution in Aerobic Granular Sludge.
In aerobic granular sludge (AGS), the growth of nitrite oxidizing bacteria (NOB) can be uncoupled from the nitrite supply of ammonia oxidizing bacteria (AOB). Besides, unlike for conventional activated sludge, Nitrobacter was found to be the dominant NOB and not Nitrospira. To explain these experimental observations, two possible pathways have been put forward in literature. The first one invol...

This advanced nutrient removal process can reduce footprint up to 75% and energy up to 50% when compared to conventional activated sludge systems. One of the defining characteristics of the granule is rapid settling which in turn allows for an increase in the biomass concentration. The granules are comprised of true biomass and do not require carriers. The layered microbial community that forms...
متن کاملSimultaneous COD, nitrogen, and phosphate removal by aerobic granular sludge.
Aerobic granular sludge technology offers a possibility to design compact wastewater treatment plants based on simultaneous chemical oxygen demand (COD), nitrogen and phosphate removal in one sequencing batch reactor. In earlier studies, it was shown that aerobic granules, cultivated with an aerobic pulse-feeding pattern, were not stable at low dissolved oxygen concentrations. Selection for slo...
متن کاملInfluence of wastewater composition on microbial communities of aerobic granules and their nutrient removal performances
Basic understanding of aerobic granular sludge (AGS) processes has mainly been obtained in laboratory-scale studies with simple synthetic wastewaters. Two approaches were applied here to make a step toward the comprehension of AGS systems treating real municipal wastewater. One approach consisted in increasing the complexity of the influent composition of an AGS sequencing batch reactor (SBR) f...
